Meet the Street Focus: Torquay team

Street Focus: Torquay is a multi-agency approach to bring real, long-term change to the area. Meet some of the people involved in the project.

Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner

  • Police and Crime Commissioner Alison Hernandez

    Police and Crime Commissioner Alison Hernandez is a Torquay local. The Commissioner is leading the Street Focus: Torquay project, bringing multiple agencies together to drive change.

  • Amanda Wells

    Amanda Wells is a commissioning officer working in the commissioning and partnerships team at Devon and Cornwall OPCC. She is OPCC’s project lead for the Street Focus: Torquay project coordinating partner activity.

SWISCo

  • Lisa Hurley

    Lisa Hurley Service Manager for Neighbourhood Enforcement Team at SWISCo, working on behalf of Torbay Council. Working with a team of Enforcement Officers who are currently addressing environmental crimes along with unauthorised encampments across Torbay.

  • Neighbourhood Enforcement Team

    SWISCO’s Neighbourhood Enforcement Team is made up of two team leaders and four enforcement officers. Their mission is to reduce environmental crime, such as littering, fly tipping, graffiti, fly posting and dog fouling. The team will engage with local groups, schools and the wider community, as well as issue fixed penalty notices when necessary to maintain cleaner, safer streets.  

Devon & Cornwall Police

  • Chief Superintendent Roy Linden

    Chief Superintendent Roy Linden is the Police Commander for South Devon. Roy is responsible for the delivery of policing across South Devon, including working closely with partner agencies and the voluntary sector.

  • Chief Inspector Miranda Pusey

    Chief Inspector Miranda Pusey heads up the Neighbourhood teams across South Devon. She has oversight for the policing activity through her teams for Street Focus in Torquay and is an active partner in developing the strategic direction for the project.

  • Inspector Ben Shardlow

    Inspector Ben Shardlow is part of the neighbourhood team in Torquay, working alongside Inspector Chris Lithgow. Having started his policing career in Torbay in 2007, he now leads efforts to collaborate with local partners to enhance community safety and deter crime. As part of the Street Focus project, he will be working closely with other agencies to tackle complex issues in the town centre.

  • Machaela O'Brien & Tania Bage

    ASB Force Legal Advisor Machaela O’Brien is supported by her paralegal, Tania Bage. Together, they provide crucial legal support to neighbourhood officers and the wider force. These roles are funded by the Commissioner to deliver faster, more effective responses to ASB by collaborating with partner agencies.

Torbay Council

  • Dave Parsons

    Dave Parsons is Torbay Council’s strategic lead for community protection, which includes responsibility for the three service areas of ASB and vulnerability, safer communities and CCTV and security. These services cover a range of operational and strategic delivery, all focussed on keeping people safe from harm.

  • Town Centre Officers

    John is one of five town centre officers based in Torquay. They help to tackle ASB by patrolling the town centre and enforcing the Public Spaces Protection Orders. The team also engage with the community and signpost people to support services.

  • Torquay street marshals

    Street Marshals

    Funded by the hotspot policing initiative, the street marshals work closely with the town centre officers and police. They carry out targeted foot patrols to deter and disrupt crime, as well as providing reassurance to the public.

  • Beccy Wells

    Beccy Wells is Torbay Council’s Corporate CCTV and Security Manager. She previously worked for Devon & Cornwall Police, where she also worked in CCTV. She has responsibility for the 300+ cameras that monitor Torbay. She and the team respond to incidents reported to them by the community, retailers, colleagues within the anti-social behaviour and vulnerability team, police, and partner agencies.

    Steph is the Neighbourhood Watch Community Project Manager for Torquay and Paignton. She’ll be supporting volunteer co-ordinators, setting up new schemes and offering businesses the chance to sign up to the Community Safety Charter, promoting safer communities: COMMUNITY SAFETY CHARTER | Neighbourhood Watch Network (ourwatch.org.uk)
